England and France make peace and the Treaty of Troyes is signed. Henry V
is recognised as heir to the French throne and regent of France. Henry
marries Catherine of Valois, daughter of Charles VI. |

Italian architect, Fillipo Brunelleschi designs the dome of the Florence Cathedral using
machines of his own design. The construction was a major engineering feat
of its day. |

Henry V dies. His eight month old son succeeds him as king of England in
September, and king of France in October. |

Charles VI of France dies. He is succeeded by his son Charles VII. |

William Caxton, the first English printer, is born. As a translator and publisher
he exerted an enormous influence on English literature. |

English composer, John Dunstable enters the service of John, Duke of Bedford in France.
Dunstable's music was highly influential on French composers, and they copied his
contenance angloise, or English manner. |

James I of Scotland is released from the Tower of London and returns to Scotland
rule in his own right. |

French composer, Giles Binchois, joins the service of William de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk. Binchois'
chansons were famous for their elegance and grace. He was highly influenced by thecontenance angloise. |

Thomas a Kempis writes "Imitation of Christ". In it he
admonishes men to place emphasis on the spiritual rather than material aspects
of life. The work would become one of the most influential works in
Christian literature. |

Richard, Duke of York is restored in blood to the Dukedom of York and recognised as Earl of March,
Earl of Ulster and Earl of Cambridge by hereditary right. The titles were removed from the family
after his father, Richard, Earl of Cambridge, was executed for plotting against Henry
V in 1415. |
